Album Cover Redesign

I redesigned one of my favorite albums, Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners debut self-titled album. They're a small folk band so I wanted the design to feel hand done and represent the genre.

Process

Mood Board

Initial drawings and ideations on the right. Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners are an acoustic folk band with three members so I was inspired by woodsy imagery. Revisiting these now, I really like the 5th one with the orange circle, but I didn’t move forward with that at the time.

I selected favorite my favorite ideas from the initial ideations and considered how I would move forward with each of them.

Finally, I did variations on the more finalized concept exploring composition and negative space. Because the band frequently records performances from their living room, the final concept brought woodland animals into an interior space symbolizing how the songs can bring you into nature.
