Sparking conversations around sexual assault and the culture on campus.
As design editor of my high school newspaper, The Coat of Arms, I spearheaded the art direction and design of a special edition magazine on sexual assault and harassment on campus. The project required sensitivity and collaboration due to the heavy responsibility of honoring the personal stories and interviews inside the magazine.
Time: January – March 2023
Role: Sole designer; assisted by advisor Tripp Robbins and project leads Abigail Becker and Laura Artandi
Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Linocut blockprints
Front and Back Cover
When designing and creating the front and back cover, I was inspired by the humanistic qualities of block printing. Because of the deeply vulnerable stories inside the magazine, the editors and I wanted to ensure the cover was thoughtful, sensitive, and didn't look overproduced. The series of faces represents the community standing with victims of assault.
Spread Designs
I also led the art direction of the interior page layouts and illustrations in collaboration with the project leaders. The illustrations were intended to reflect the block print style of the cover and only use black-and-white silhouettes. I created editorial-style page design templates for staff to modify and input articles into as well as designing the pages above.
